The elite apartment building Aleksandra was built in 1900, when the house was called Baron Maidel's tenement house. Noble residents lived in the house. The designer of the house is the famous architect Rūdolfs Cirkvics. Almost all of the architect's works are designed in saturated eclectic style forms, in some cases including individual Art Nouveau ornamental motifs, for example, at Vīlandes Street 11 (1899). His most significant buildings are located together in a fairly small area in the area of Ausekļa and Vīlandes Streets, in the so-called Riga Boulevard Circle, which is part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.
